Becoming a Member - Classification Structure
Your application will need to be assessed by the committee before approval.
Surveyor Classification
Categories within the Marine Surveyors Association are:
Class 1A |
This category is awarded to surveyors with more than 5 years surveying experience and demonstrates compliance with the MSA technical, managerial and business requirements. |
Class 1B |
This category is awarded to surveyors with more than 5 years surveying experience and demonstrates compliance with the MSA technical requirements but due to differing circumstances (foreign based or employee of a surveying company), cannot demonstrate compliance with the MSA managerial or business requirements. |
Class 2A |
This category is awarded to surveyors with between 2 and 5 years surveying experience and demonstrates compliance with the MSA technical, managerial and business requirements. |
Class 2B |
This category is awarded to surveyors with between 2 and 5 years surveying experience and demonstrates compliance with the MSA technical requirements but due to differing circumstances (foreign based or employees of a surveying company), cannot demonstrate compliance with the MSA managerial or business requirements. |
Class 3 |
This category is awarded to surveyors with less than 2 years surveying experience and may still be developing technical, managerial and business credentials. |
HLM |
This category (Honorary Life Member) is awarded to non-active surveyors who have contributed greatly to the MSA and have upheld the integrity of the Marine Surveying profession as a whole. |
Affiliate |
This category is applied to any member (person or entity) who has a professional or personal interest in the advancement of the profession of Marine Surveyor. |
